Ofuji Empowers Bende Women Traders with Millions of Naira
In a move to cushion the effects of the current economic realities, prominent philanthropist and entrepreneur Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as “Ofuji,” has distributed Millions of naira to women petty traders across the Bende Federal Constituency.
The empowerment program, held on February 6, 2026, saw over 100 women receive ₦200,000 each to scale their small businesses.
This latest gesture comes just 36 days after Dr. Anyaso’s New Year’s Day intervention, where Ifuji distributed millions to 72 eminent youths and community leaders.
Boosting Local Commerce
Dr. Anyaso at the event, speaking through Ezeogo Emeka Onuoha, the Chairman, Board of Trustees Of the Chima Anyaso Foundation who represented him, emphasized that the funds are a direct response to the “prevailing economic hardships” facing the nation and he also said that Chima is complementing the effort of the Abia State Governor Governor, Dr. Alex Itti, OFR, who is doing incredibly well in Abia State.
> “This financial assistance is intended to enhance your businesses and support your families,” Onuoha told the beneficiaries. “We urge every recipient to utilize these funds judiciously to ensure long-term sustainability.”

During the ceremony, Bende PDP LGA Chairman, Chief Ihechi Phillips, took a swipe at “empty promises” in politics, noting that unlike some who issue “audio” bank cards that fail at the point of withdrawal, Dr. Anyaso’s foundation provides tangible, accessible capital.
A Multi-Party Gathering
The event served as a rare point of convergence for the Constituency’s often fractured political landscape. Dignitaries and community leaders from five major political parties—ADC, APC, Labour Party, PDP, and YPP—were in attendance, signaling a cross-party appreciation for Anyaso’s humanitarian efforts.

Pastor Okechukwu Dike: A PDP Chieftain who described the intervention as a sign that “it is indeed Ofuji’s time,” urging constituents to remember this benevolence.
Lolo Arisa Okparigbo: Women’s leader of the Ofuji Movement, who pledged the continued civic support of the women’s bloc.
Sustained Momentum
This February outreach marks the second major empowerment drive by the Chima Anyaso Foundation in 2026. On January 1st, the foundation kicked off the year by gifting ₦500,000 and ₦250,000 respectively to youths and distinguished individuals across Bende.
The Anambra State Government has arrested a 47-year-old Abia State indigene, Mrs. Onyinyechi Esther Charles, for allegedly operating an illegal maternity home and performing surgical procedures without any medical or surgical qualifications.
Mrs. Charles, who is married to a man from Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area, reportedly ran a traditional birth attendant (TBA) facility in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area. She is accused of carrying out caesarean sections, normal vaginal deliveries, and other surgical procedures despite lacking the necessary professional certification and authorisation.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to performing the unauthorised medical procedures. She reportedly disclosed that she was previously known as Eze Nwanyi before becoming a church minister and later positioning herself as a surgeon.
Confirming the arrest, Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, said surgical instruments and other medical equipment suspected to have been used in the illegal operations were recovered during a search of the facility. Hospital beds where patients were reportedly treated were also discovered on the premises.
Officials further found what appeared to be a shrine and an altar inside the facility.
The illegal maternity home has been confiscated pending the outcome of legal proceedings, while Mrs. Charles is expected to be arraigned in a competent court.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally received the presidential nomination forms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 general elections, confirming Shettima’s retention as the party’s vice presidential candidate.
The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, received the nomination forms on Friday during a formal ceremony held at the Continental Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The forms were presented on behalf of President Tinubu by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Masari.
