U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell has given Donald Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro four additional days to produce records related to alleged drug-trafficking activities involving Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

The order was disclosed Tuesday by Dr. Von Batten-Montague-York in a post on X. Judge Howell noted that the underlying case has been pending for more than three years.

Pirro had reportedly sought a 10-day extension to comply with a court order requiring the release of materials held by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Howell granted only four days, setting a firm deadline of August 21, 2026.

Von Batten-Montague-York described the ruling as a sign of renewed urgency from Pirro and the Justice Department. “We deeply appreciate U.S. Attorney Pirro and the DOJ’s renewed motivation to release these documents, and we agree with Judge Howell. This case has been pending for three years. The time to release the Tinubu drug-trafficking files is now,” he wrote.

He added that strategic interests between the United States and Nigeria should not block disclosure. “As President Trump has indicated, our shared interests with Nigeria do not mean supporting an alleged drug trafficker.”

The records at issue have not been publicly released, and neither the Justice Department nor Pirro’s office has issued an official statement on the latest extension.

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections and has firmly ruled out any alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, the music icon addressed questions about his political involvement ahead of the next presidential contest. He clarified that his personal political convictions remain independent of those of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has declared support for President Bola Tinubu.

“My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody,” Davido stated.

Recalling his past political engagements, the artiste noted that he had previously backed opposition figures and cross-party causes. “In the past, yes, I’ve supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger; my late uncle Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon) was part of the APC, I campaigned then,” he said.

Davido, however, emphasised that his position ahead of 2027 remains completely open — with one clear exception. “Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC. Everybody should have their choice,” he added.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen an Osun State Government account domiciled with First Bank, ten days to governorship election, according to documents seen by newsmen.

The account, reportedly used for the payment of workers’ salaries, was placed on “Post No Debit” status by the anti-graft agency.

The development came hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts and those of top government officials.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor described the reported move as an attempt to cripple government activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke maintained that there was no legal basis for freezing the accounts of the state government, arguing that the EFCC lacked the statutory powers to take such action.

A source close to the governor, who requested anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed to Vanguard that the account had already been frozen.

“I can confirm that the state government account has been frozen by the EFCC. It is no longer an allegation. The governor will address the press shortly to update the public on the situation,” the source said.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not issued an official statement on the development. The reason for the account restriction was also not immediately known.
