Abia PDP Disowns Alleged Caretaker Committee Appointment
The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned an online document circulating on social media that claims a caretaker committee has been appointed for the party in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party described the document as fake, illegal, and of no effect, warning party members and the public to disregard it entirely.
According to the PDP, the document was allegedly signed by an individual claiming to be the party’s publicity secretary, a position the party said the individual does not lawfully occupy. The Abia PDP traced the claim to a convention purportedly held in Ibadan late last year, which it said was conducted in defiance of subsisting orders of the Federal High Court.
The party further stated that the said convention has since been nullified by another Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which dismissed the gathering as unlawful. It added that court orders had earlier restrained those involved from parading themselves as officers of the party.
The PDP warned that any action taken by such individuals, including the announcement of a caretaker committee, amounts to contempt of court and a violation of the rule of law.
Describing the purported appointment as a nullity, the party accused those behind it of spreading misinformation and attempting to undermine constitutional order within the party.
The Abia PDP called on its members, supporters, and the general public to ignore the document, stressing that the Elder Abraham Amah–led Abia State Executive Committee remains the only legally recognised leadership of the party in the state and the only one acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and respect for the rule of law, insisting that no amount of propaganda could replace legality.
The statement was signed by the Abia State PDP Publicity Secretary, Chief Jude Udeachara.
The Anambra State Government has arrested a 47-year-old Abia State indigene, Mrs. Onyinyechi Esther Charles, for allegedly operating an illegal maternity home and performing surgical procedures without any medical or surgical qualifications.
Mrs. Charles, who is married to a man from Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area, reportedly ran a traditional birth attendant (TBA) facility in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area. She is accused of carrying out caesarean sections, normal vaginal deliveries, and other surgical procedures despite lacking the necessary professional certification and authorisation.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to performing the unauthorised medical procedures. She reportedly disclosed that she was previously known as Eze Nwanyi before becoming a church minister and later positioning herself as a surgeon.
Confirming the arrest, Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, said surgical instruments and other medical equipment suspected to have been used in the illegal operations were recovered during a search of the facility. Hospital beds where patients were reportedly treated were also discovered on the premises.
Officials further found what appeared to be a shrine and an altar inside the facility.
The illegal maternity home has been confiscated pending the outcome of legal proceedings, while Mrs. Charles is expected to be arraigned in a competent court.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally received the presidential nomination forms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 general elections, confirming Shettima’s retention as the party’s vice presidential candidate.
The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, received the nomination forms on Friday during a formal ceremony held at the Continental Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The forms were presented on behalf of President Tinubu by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Masari.

Senior party leaders and stakeholders were also present at the ceremony.
