The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked reports suggesting that it is entering into a political alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

The party, in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, dismissed the allegation credited to Chief Obinna Oriaku, who claimed that the PDP in Abia would not field candidates in future elections as part of an arrangement with the APC.

Reacting to the development, the PDP said there was no form of discussion, negotiation, or agreement with any political party particularly the APC that could undermine its right and commitment to present candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections, including the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats.

“The claim is not only false but also mischievously designed to confuse the public and discredit the integrity of our great party,” the statement read.

The Abia PDP reaffirmed its independence as a “vibrant and well-structured political organization” guided by principles of internal democracy, popular participation, and strict adherence to both the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that of the PDP.

Elder Amah emphasized that the PDP does not operate on gossip or speculative alliances engineered by “political merchants,” stressing that the party’s philosophy is rooted in justice, equity, inclusiveness, and service to the people.

“The PDP in Abia State is not for sale and will not be mortgaged on the altar of convenience or personal ambition. Any future understanding with other political groups will only be considered if it aligns with the overall interest of Abians and preserves the PDP’s legitimacy as a platform for contesting and winning elections,” he stated.

The party further warned individuals peddling falsehoods to desist from making reckless statements that do not emanate from its official structures, adding that such misinformation could only serve to create unnecessary tension.

Reiterating its preparedness for the 2027 elections, the Abia PDP said it remains focused on rebuilding a stronger and more united party, deepening grassroots engagement, and restoring public trust in its democratic ideals.

The statement urged members, supporters, and stakeholders across the state to disregard the reports and remain steadfast in their loyalty to the PDP as the “true platform of the people.”

“Our commitment remains firm and unshaken. We will continue to defend democracy, protect the rights of our members, and champion the prosperity, unity, and progress of Abia State,” the party concluded.
