Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a final order halting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from going ahead with its planned 2025 national convention scheduled to take place this weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Peter Lifu restrained the PDP from conducting the convention until the party fully complies with the provisions of its constitution and internal guidelines governing such gatherings.

The ruling followed a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who challenged the party’s preparations and alleged violations of due process in the build-up to the convention.

Justice Lifu, in his decision, emphasized that the PDP must adhere strictly to its own rules before convening any national assembly or leadership election, noting that failure to do so could undermine the party’s internal democracy.

With the court’s order, the PDP is legally barred from proceeding with the Ibadan convention unless the identified constitutional issues are addressed.

The party is yet to issue an official response to the ruling.
