The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has elected a new State Working Committee (SWC) following a peaceful and well-attended state congress held on Tuesday in Umuahia.
The congress, which also produced zonal leaders, was chaired by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Guan, who led the Abia State Congress Committee appointed by the party’s National Working Committee. The exercise was monitored by the Resident Electoral Commissioner and the Abia State Commissioner of Police, and was widely described by stakeholders as orderly, transparent, and rancour-free.
At the end of the proceedings, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu emerged as the new State Chairman through a consensus arrangement, alongside other members of the State Working Committee and zonal leaders.
Speaking after the congress, Guan commended party leaders and delegates for their cooperation, noting that the smooth conduct of the exercise reflected unity and internal cohesion within the party in the state. He expressed confidence that the APC in Abia is well-positioned to secure victories in the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, congratulated the newly elected officials and praised party stakeholders for their commitment to strengthening the party’s structure in the state. He urged members to remain united and work towards delivering electoral success for the party in future elections.
In his acceptance speech, the new State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, pledged to consolidate on the unity within the party and expand its membership across the 17 local government areas of the state. He assured members that the APC would intensify efforts to win the confidence of Abians ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The congress recorded a large turnout of accredited delegates and party faithful from across the state, which party leaders described as a sign of growing grassroots support.
