An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has declared that the party and its allied support groups, including the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, are fully prepared to take over Abia State in the 2027 general elections.
Ikonne made the statement during a strategic meeting of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (Old Aba Zone) held at the residence of the Abia State Coordinator of the group, Chief Henry Ikoh.
According to him, the meeting was aimed at reviewing strategies, strengthening internal cohesion, and deepening collaboration between the APC and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to ensure a strong electoral showing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abia State.
He said Abia must deliver at least 80 per cent of the votes cast for President Tinubu in 2027, describing projections of 25 per cent support as unacceptable. Ikonne insisted that the APC has the political structure, manpower, and influence to surpass previous electoral outcomes in the state.
The APC chieftain noted that a party with three former governors, current and former ministers, and several prominent leaders should not underperform at the polls. He added that the party is determined not only to secure victory for President Tinubu in Abia but also to defeat Governor Alex Otti, whom he accused of running the state as a personal project.
Ikonne criticised the Otti administration for what he described as failure to effectively deliver key projects, including smart schools and recreational centres, despite their inclusion in official performance reports.
He also called on the state government to grant full autonomy to local governments, arguing that sustainable grassroots development cannot be achieved without true independence at the local council level.
He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and the APC to intensify mobilisation, grassroots engagement, and political coordination ahead of the 2027 elections, with the aim of aligning Abia State with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
