The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Taraba State House of Assembly by-election for Karim 1 Constituency in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Saturday, declaring APC’s candidate, Abner Shittu, as winner with a total of 5,901 votes. He defeated his closest rival, Ali Kanda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 5,527 votes. The margin of victory was 374 votes.
The outcome marks a significant political shift in Taraba State, a territory long regarded as a stronghold of the PDP.
The election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the State Assembly following the resignation of the former lawmaker, who took up an appointment in the State Executive Council.
Despite reports of minor hitches caused by malfunctioning BVAS machines in some polling units, the exercise was largely peaceful, with impressive voter turnout recorded across most areas.
