Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing circulating rumours suggesting he may be considering leaving the party.

Sources close to the former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development and 2019 APC gubernatorial candidate in Abia State have described the speculation as unfounded, noting that Dr. Ogah remains firmly committed to the ideals and progress of the party in the state and the South East region.

Over the years, Dr. Ogah has been widely acknowledged for his contributions to strengthening the APC’s structure in Abia State. Beyond public political engagements, he has consistently supported the growth of the party through strategic involvement, grassroots mobilization, and the provision of resources aimed at consolidating the party’s presence across the state.

Party stakeholders also point to his role in fostering unity and inclusiveness within the party, particularly through his support for members at the grassroots level and his commitment to building a stable and competitive political platform in Abia.

Dr. Ogah served as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Abia State during the 2019 general elections, where he led the party’s campaign on a platform of progressive governance and institutional development. His participation in the election further demonstrated his confidence in the party’s vision for the state.

Observers within the party say his leadership style, characterized by calmness, strategic engagement, and a strong commitment to party development, has continued to contribute to the strengthening of the APC’s organizational structure in Abia State.

As political discussions gradually begin to focus on the 2027 electoral cycle, many stakeholders believe that the growing confidence in the APC across Abia reflects the solid foundation laid by committed leaders within the party.

Responding to the speculation about a possible defection, associates of Dr. Ogah insist that such claims are baseless, emphasizing that leaders who have invested years building a political platform do not abandon it based on rumours or speculation.

They maintained that Dr. Ogah remains focused on supporting the growth of the APC and contributing to the advancement of progressive leadership in Abia State.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has fixed October 20 for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its national chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, insisting that the party remains united behind its presidential ticket.

Cleopas disclosed this on Saturday at a press briefing in Abuja, saying the inauguration would take place during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, where key decisions on its preparations for the elections would also be ratified.

He said the party would present Certificates of Return to its candidates and hold a dinner to strengthen cooperation ahead of the polls.

He said, “The propaganda that our party is not committed to the elections is definitely a sign of fear in the camp of the ruling party.

“In preparation for full campaign takeoff, we have proposed a meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party on October 20.

“It is at that NEC meeting that we will officially inaugurate the NDC Presidential Campaign Council and ratify certain key decisions related to the 2027 General Election.”

The chairman said the party was prioritising the composition of the council to ensure that members were suitable for the responsibilities they would be given.

“It is better to get it right. It is a sensitive election that we are going into. And we must check characters,” he said.

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that Justice Peter Lifu acted in contempt of court by issuing a judgment that deregistered the ADC and four other political parties despite a pending appeal.

According to Abdullahi, the Court of Appeal had directed that no action should be taken on the matter until the appeal is heard on October 27. He argued that proceeding with the judgment before the appellate court’s determination amounts to a disregard for the court’s directive.

“Justice Peter Lifu, the judge who gave the judgment that deregistered the ADC and four other parties, should be arrested. The Appeal Court said don’t act until the case is heard on October 27. He’s acting in contempt of court,” Abdullahi stated.

The remarks add a new dimension to the legal and political controversy surrounding the status of the affected political parties, with the matter expected to be further addressed when the appeal comes up for hearing.
