The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to securing the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking during an interview with journalists at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Aguocha stated that he would not relent until justice is done and Kanu regains his freedom.

“I will not rest until Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released. His continued detention is unjust and unnecessary. As a representative of the people, it is my duty to speak for justice, peace, and fairness,” he declared.

Aguocha, who has consistently advocated for a political resolution to the issue, urged the Federal Government to adopt dialogue as a means of addressing the grievances in the South-East, emphasizing that peace cannot thrive under repression.

He further noted that Kanu’s release would go a long way in restoring calm and unity across the region, while appealing to leaders and stakeholders to join in the call for his freedom.

“The release of Nnamdi Kanu will heal many wounds and restore faith in our democracy. We must not allow injustice to persist,” the lawmaker added.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021, following charges bordering on treasonable felony. Despite several court orders granting him bail, his release has continued to generate intense debate across the country.
