Father of Late Dr. Mercy Uwakwe, Igbere Council of Traditional Rulers Announce Annulment of Alleged Marriage With Mr Dennis Ikpe
In an official declaration issued by the Igbere Clan Council of Ndi Eze (ICCON), the traditional rulers of Igbere in Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, have publicly annulled the alleged traditional marriage between late Dr. Mercy Ebere Uwakwe and Mr. Dennis Chinemerem Ikpe.
The statement, signed by multiple traditional rulers and Mercy’s father, HRM Eze Uwakwe 
O. Ukaegbu, declares the said marriage null and void based on three key grounds:
1. Failure of the Groom to Present Himself
Mr. Dennis Ikpe allegedly failed to physically appear before the traditional council and family elders to formally present himself as the husband or fulfill the required customs.
1. Abandonment of Marital Obligations
He reportedly did not perform any of the traditional responsibilities or demonstrate the commitment expected in such a union.
3. Withdrawal of Consent by the Bride
Late Dr. Mercy Uwakwe herself had, while alive, formally withdrawn consent to proceed with the union, citing the relationship as being strictly online and never formalized before elders or through traditional rites.
The council emphasized that, in line with Igbo tradition and authority, the said union is completely annulled and carries no marital rights, claims, or obligations of any kind. The statement was dated and sealed on May 5th, 2025.
This official declaration puts to rest the heated online debate and lingering questions about the legitimacy of the alleged marriage. The family of the deceased had not previously brought the matter to the media, but with this public annulment, it is clear they are setting the record straight in honor of their late daughter.
