The Member representing Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Erondu Uchenna Jnr., has reaffirmed his commitment to people-centred governance, inclusive development, and grassroots empowerment with the rollout of a Mass Empowerment Programme for his constituents.

The programme was unveiled on Friday, January 31, 2026, during a grand civic reception organised in his honour by the Uhie People’s Assembly. The event attracted traditional rulers, community elders, political leaders, youth and women groups, as well as stakeholders from across Obingwa West.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Erondu described the reception as more than a personal celebration, noting that it symbolised the community’s shared values of service, unity, and collective responsibility.

“This gathering is not just about me; it is about service, unity, and shared responsibility. Leadership should be measured by the lives we touch, the opportunities we create, and the hope we restore in our communities,” he said.

As part of the empowerment initiative, beneficiaries received vehicles, business and vocational tools, digital devices, medical equipment, and other support items aimed at boosting economic productivity and improving access to essential services. The lawmaker stressed that the initiative was a strategic investment in human capital rather than an act of charity.

“These items are investments in human potential, designed to help our people stand on their feet, grow businesses, improve healthcare access, and contribute meaningfully to the development of our communities,” he stated.

Hon. Erondu identified education as a central pillar of his legislative agenda and constituency interventions, highlighting ongoing support for students through free JAMB and WAEC registrations, scholarship programmes, provision of digital learning tools, and other academic support initiatives.

“Education remains the strongest weapon against poverty. When we invest in education, we are securing the future of Obingwa West,” he added.

He assured constituents that the Mass Empowerment Programme was part of a long-term development strategy and not a one-off intervention, aimed at strengthening institutions, expanding economic opportunities, and promoting inclusive growth.

In a key moment at the event, the lawmaker paid glowing tribute to former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Chibuikem Ikpeazu, describing him as a mentor whose leadership and guidance significantly shaped his personal and political journey.

“Through his wisdom, patience, and belief in my potential, he guided me when the path was unclear and challenged me to become more than I thought possible,” Hon. Erondu said, adding that Ikpeazu’s leadership exemplified integrity, humility, and service.

He also expressed gratitude to God, his family, colleagues in the Abia State House of Assembly, community leaders, and development partners, noting that his political journey was anchored on a commitment to give back to the Uhie people and publicly acknowledge those who contributed to his growth.

Addressing beneficiaries, Hon. Erondu urged them to use the empowerment tools responsibly and productively, describing them as catalysts for personal advancement and broader community development.

He concluded with a call for unity and sustained collaboration, expressing optimism that collective effort would deliver lasting progress in the constituency.
