Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has announced that he will be taking a temporary break from public engagements to attend to his health.

In a statement on Friday, Obi disclosed that the short medical rest will affect his activities both within Nigeria and abroad over the weekend. He noted that while the decision was necessary, it would not derail his commitment to national issues and the welfare of Nigerians.

“All scheduled engagements for this weekend, both in and outside the country, have been suspended to enable me undergo medical rest,” Obi explained.

The announcement comes at a time when the Labour Party chieftain has remained active in national conversations, often weighing in on issues of governance, economic reforms, and good leadership. His decision to step aside temporarily has sparked mixed reactions, with many of his supporters on social media sending messages of solidarity and prayers for his speedy recovery.

Political observers say Obi’s influence continues to resonate beyond the 2023 elections, as he remains one of the most visible opposition figures in the country.

As of press time, details of his medical rest remain undisclosed, but aides insist it is only a brief break.
