The Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Unyime Idem, has announced modalities for the selection and disbursement of a ₦1 billion family-based business grant targeted at families within his constituency.
According to the lawmaker, the initiative will empower 1,000 beneficiaries in the first phase, with each selected family set to receive ₦1 million to support and expand their businesses. The beneficiaries will be drawn from 1,000 families across 300 villages within the constituency.
Idem explained that the programme will run in yearly batches until all 5,000 families identified in Ukanafun and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas have benefitted.
He said the intervention was designed to stimulate grassroots economic growth, reduce poverty, and support family-owned businesses across rural communities.
“This grant is aimed at strengthening our local economy by empowering families to establish and sustain small businesses. It is a long-term plan that will cover 5,000 families in total, with 1,000 families benefiting each year until the programme is completed,” Idem stated.
The legislator assured that the selection process would be transparent, with priority given to genuine families in need, spread across the 300 villages in the constituency.
Community leaders have lauded the initiative, describing it as a life-changing intervention that would directly impact households and create ripple effects in local commerce.
