Senator Austin Akobundu has described the emergence of Vanguard Newspapers correspondent in Abia State, Deacon Steve Oko, as Chairman of Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abia State, as a recognition and elevation of erudition, diligence and commitment to professionalism.

The Senator stated this in his congratulatory message to Deacon Oko on his election into the office over the weekend. He emphasised that Steve Oko’s calm mien, intelligence and dedication to the ethics of journalism meant he was the right person to lead the Chapel in Abia State at such a time as this.

While extolling correspondents in Abia State for their patriotism and sacrifices in the discharge of their duties, Senator Akobundu urged them to cooperate with the new chairman and members of his executive in moving the Chapel forward.

He reiterated his commitment to a more robust relationship with the media in Abia State and beyond, and pledged his support to the NUJ and its affiliate bodies in the state. Senator Akobundu concluded his congratulatory message by praying for Steve Oko and his executive members for a successful tenure.
