Nigerian journalist and media strategist, Enyinnaya Appolos, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assign the execution of his administration’s housing promise to the Super Falcons to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, insisting that Wike has the capacity and speed to deliver the reward without delay.
Appolos made the appeal in a statement on Sunday, stressing that fulfilling the promise of 3-bedroom apartments in Abuja to the Super Falcons is not only a matter of national honour but a crucial test of the government’s commitment to keeping its word to those who bring pride to the country.
“I respectfully appeal to President Tinubu to instruct the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to take charge and fulfil the President’s promise by ensuring the allocation of the promised 3-bedroom apartments in Abuja to the Super Falcons,” Appolos said.
He warned that leaving the responsibility solely to the Federal Ministry of Housing or the Ministry of Sports could lead to delays or even abandonment, similar to what happened with the Super Eagles of 1994 and 1996, who waited more than three decades to receive their promised rewards, even after some of them had passed on.
“We have seen how, for decades, our national sports heroes have been neglected after giving their all for the country. We must not allow the Super Falcons to become another unfulfilled promise. Wike is known for execution and speed. If given the mandate, he will deliver, and he will deliver promptly.” He said.
The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, have remained a symbol of resilience and excellence, often outperforming expectations on the global stage despite systemic challenges and underfunding. Their recent performances have reignited conversations about the need for tangible support and recognition of women in sports.
Appolos noted that delivering on this promise is about more than housing, it is a statement about gender equity, national gratitude, and leadership integrity.
“Rewarding the Super Falcons is not a favour; it is a duty. It is the least we can do for a team that has consistently brought honour to this country under very difficult circumstances,” he concluded.
As Nigerians continue to celebrate their women’s national team, Appolos’ appeal stands as a strong reminder that promises to national heroes must be fulfilled swiftly and sincerely, and that the time to act is now.
