Teachers’ Strike: Activist VeryDarkMan Gathers School Kids At FCT Minister Wike’s Office As Pupils Chant “A For Asiwaju, B For Bola, C For Corruption”

Published

on

A social media activist, Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Monday took his activism to the entrance of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) headquarters, where he staged an unusual protest by conducting a symbolic “open-air classroom” for public school children locked out of their schools due to an ongoing teachers’ strike.

The protest was to publicly shame the Nigerian government over its failure to resolve a strike that has kept FCT public primary schools shut for over three weeks.

In a video posted to his social media handles, the activist turned the protest into a makeshift lesson, teaching the children an alphabet that reflected his frustration with political leaders.

He taught the pupils representing the alphabet with President Bola Tinubu’s name and other issues like corruption, embezzlement, and disappointment.

He said, “A for Asiwaju, B for Bola, C for corruption, D for disappointed, Tinubu has disappointed us. E for embezzlement, he has embezzled your school fees, he has embezzled the payment of your school teachers. That is why you people are here because your teachers are not available to teach you because the government has not paid them. They have embezzled it.”

With the pupils repeating after him, he continued, “F for fraudulence, G for gross ill, Tinubu’s ill, Wike ill, H for heartlessness, the governments are heartless, that is why you people are out of school for three weeks and they do not care. They are heartless because their own children are in private schools….”

In a post on his Facebook page attached to the video, VDM directly addressed the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and President Tinubu, accusing them of negligence and betrayal of public trust.

“For the past 9 weeks and counting, all the public primary schools in the federal capital territory, Abuja have been on strike because of internal problems surrounding the payment of minimum wage,” he wrote.

He added, “For this reason, these public school kids have to suffer. As a matter of fact, they have missed out on last term examinations because the teachers won’t work and so the schools are locked.

“The government promised to pay 70,000 naira for minimum wage and above 70,000 naira based on their promotional levels.

“I decided to bring them out to the FCTA and use the entrance as their new school. Hopefully the government will remember them.

“So for now, this is our new school. I am certain the government officials will not care because their kids don’t go to the public schools. Most of them don’t even study in Nigeria.

“This is not what @officialasiwajubat promised the Nigerian people. TO the Honourable Minister of the FCT, please open our public schools.

“I have heard you call them the leaders of tomorrow. How will they lead tomorrow without basic education?”

The protest comes amid a protracted strike by public primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory.

The strike, which began in April 2025, is in response to the government’s alleged failure to pay the agreed minimum wage of N70,000 and to adjust salaries in line with teachers’ promotional levels.

The deadlock has left thousands of schoolchildren idle and parents frustrated.

Despite several appeals by education stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), no resolution has been reached between the teachers and the FCT administration.

Critics have accused the federal and FCT authorities of ignoring the plight of public school students while prioritising political and elite interests.

Many government officials’ children are enrolled in expensive private or foreign schools, a reality that has fueled public outrage.

VeryDarkMan’s protest has since gone viral, sparking renewed conversations about the state of public education, government accountability, and the widening inequality in Nigeria’s education system.

As of press time, neither the FCT Minister nor the Presidency has issued reacted to the protest.

NSA Nuhu Ribadu confirmed El-Rufai tapped his phone, according to the DSS in a Federal High Court Abuja investigation

The trial of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on charges of treason and breach of national security continued on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with prosecutors presenting a television interview in which he allegedly discussed receiving a wiretapped conversation involving the National Security Adviser (NSA).

During the proceedings, the prosecution played a 43-minute TV interview featuring El-Rufai, in which he reportedly stated that someone had intercepted a private conversation involving the NSA and forwarded it to him. In the interview, the former governor was said to have defended the practice, claiming that governments routinely monitor communications.

A prosecution witness testified that investigators interviewed the National Security Adviser following the broadcast. The NSA verbally confirmed that the conversation referenced by El-Rufai had taken place between him and the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The ICPC Chairman also corroborated the existence of the discussion after portions of the interview were played to him.

The court heard that the TV anchor, Charles Aniagolu, activist-lawyer Deji Adeyanju, and the cameraman were invited for questioning. Aniagolu reportedly confirmed that El-Rufai admitted during the interview that the conversation was intercepted and passed to him, while reiterating that such practices are common among governments.

The prosecution tendered statements from Aniagolu and Adeyanju, which were admitted without objection from the defence as Exhibits C, C1, and E respectively. A statement from the cameraman, Ugochukwu Agalayana, was admitted as Exhibit D. Agalayana confirmed setting up the recording equipment but said he did not follow the content of the conversation.

According to the witness, investigators viewed El-Rufai’s remarks in the interview as an “open confession” regarding the interception of the NSA’s conversation. The team concluded that the act could undermine national security and recommended prosecution. A preliminary investigation report was admitted as Exhibit F.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel Paul Erokoro, the witness admitted that investigators did not examine any communication devices belonging to the NSA, obtain IP addresses, or carry out forensic analysis of the alleged interception. He explained, however, that such steps were deemed unnecessary after the NSA confirmed the authenticity of the conversation.

The witness acknowledged that El-Rufai did not claim in the interview to have personally carried out the interception, but maintained that the former governor repeatedly stood by the assertion that the conversation had been tapped and forwarded to him. When asked if El-Rufai might have been boasting in a politically charged appearance, the witness described him as “a person of integrity” and said he believed the statements were genuine.

After the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to June 22 and 23 for continuation of hearing.
