President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a cash reward of $100,000 for each member of the Super Falcons squad who represented Nigeria at the just-concluded 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament held in Morocco.
The announcement was made following the team’s commendable performance at the continental tournament, where they showcased resilience, skill, and patriotism on the pitch.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Monday, Tinubu praised the Falcons for being worthy ambassadors of the country and bringing pride to millions of Nigerians through their determination and sportsmanship.
“This gesture is not just a reward but a token of appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices made by our gallant female footballers. They have made Nigeria proud,” the President said.
The 2025 WAFCON tournament saw Nigeria reach the finals in a thrilling campaign that captivated football fans across the continent. Tinubu’s financial reward is expected to further boost morale and support the growth of women’s football in the country.
Officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have expressed gratitude to the President, describing the move as “historic” and “a huge motivation for future tournaments.”
The Super Falcons remain the most successful national team in Africa’s women’s football history, and this gesture from the presidency underscores the nation’s continued support for the team.
