President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of the 5 percent excise duty on telecommunications services in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which confirmed the development on Tuesday, said the decision aligns with the President’s commitment to reduce the tax burden on businesses and promote economic growth.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a relief to telecom operators and subscribers who had raised concerns about the potential increase in call and data costs had the tax been implemented.
