A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has suspended National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum and five other National Working Committee (NWC) members for one month, citing incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court rulings.
The announcement was made Saturday at a press briefing in Abuja by factional National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who declared Mohammed Abdulrahman, National Vice Chairman (North Central), as Acting National Chairman.
Damagum’s suspension follows his own faction’s earlier one-month suspension of Anyanwu and three others over a court order halting the party’s national convention.
Anyanwu accused Damagum of “incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court judgment,” stating he must appear before the PDP Disciplinary Committee.
The faction also suspended:
– **National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba** – for issuing unauthorized statements
– **Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja**
– **National Financial Secretary Daniel Woyenguikoro** – for alleged financial misconduct
– **National Youth Leader Sulaiman Kadade**
– **Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo**
All six face possible expulsion and have been referred to the Disciplinary Committee.
The escalating leadership crisis has deepened divisions within the PDP, with rival factions now operating parallel structures ahead of a stalled national convention.
