The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has overturned the zoning arrangement earlier announced by its Abia State chapter, directing that the status quo be maintained ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement issued on May 1, 2026, the party said the decision followed concerns raised by stakeholders and leaders within the Abia State chapter. After reviewing the issues, the national leadership instructed that all zoning directives previously issued by the State Working Committee be set aside.
The development effectively opens the field for all aspirants, as the party confirmed that no zoning restrictions will apply to any of the elective positions.
According to the statement signed by Abia APC Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, interested aspirants for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship positions are now free to obtain nomination forms in line with the party’s guidelines and deadlines.
The decision is expected to reshape the political landscape within the party in Abia State, as it allows wider participation in the race for various elective offices.
