President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, to oversee the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections for National Assembly positions in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The directive positions both senior aides at the forefront of efforts to coordinate and monitor the party’s primaries for Senate and House of Representatives seats, a move widely perceived as part of a broader strategy to ensure transparency, internal cohesion, and a rancour-free process within the ruling party.

According to party insiders, the decision highlights the president’s determination to maintain firm oversight of the APC’s internal electoral processes, particularly amid growing political realignments and early jockeying for positions ahead of 2027. The involvement of high-ranking officials from the Presidency is also expected to bolster confidence among party stakeholders and aspirants.

The All Progressives Congress has already commenced early preparations for the next general elections, with consultations, alignments, and mobilisation ongoing across various states. The supervision by Gbajabiamila and Masari is anticipated to help streamline the conduct of the primaries and address potential disputes before they escalate.

Political observers note that the move reflects a proactive approach by the Tinubu administration to consolidate party structures and avoid the internal crises that have plagued party primaries in previous election cycles.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, attention is expected to focus increasingly on the APC’s internal processes, with the outcome of its primaries likely to shape the broader political landscape in Nigeria.
