The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal filed by Julius Abure challenging the leadership of the Labour Party, affirming Nenadi Usman as the party’s legitimate leader. The appellate court upheld an earlier Federal High Court ruling, which relied on a prior Supreme Court judgment nullifying Abure’s claim to the chairmanship and directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Usman.
In a unanimous decision, the court also faulted Abure for abusing judicial process and engaging in forum shopping, describing the appeal as lacking merit. A cost of ₦10 million was awarded against him. Reacting, Usman hailed the ruling as a victory for democracy and urged party members to unite as preparations for future elections continue.
