The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that he has declared an intention to contest the Abia State governorship in 2027.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the Deputy Speaker described the report, attributed to an online platform known as Native Reporters, as false, misleading and lacking any factual basis.

According to the statement, Rt. Hon. Kalu has neither privately nor publicly indicated any plan to seek the governorship of Abia State in 2027. It stressed that the lawmaker remains focused on fulfilling his four-year mandate of representing the Bende Federal Constituency and serving Nigerians with dedication and integrity.

The Deputy Speaker’s office called on the media outlet involved to retract the report and adhere to basic journalistic principles of accuracy, fairness and truth. It also cautioned media practitioners and the public against the spread of misinformation, urging proper verification of facts before publication.

The statement further noted that any future political decisions or intentions of the Deputy Speaker would be officially communicated by his political family at the appropriate time.
