Former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has congratulated Senator (Prof.) Sandy Ojang Onor on the occasion of his 60th birthday, describing him as a principled leader, intellectual powerhouse, and patriot committed to public service.
In a goodwill message marking the milestone, Ikpeazu joined the family, friends, associates, and the people of Cross River State in celebrating what he called “a life defined by intellect, integrity, courage, and uncommon commitment to public service.”
Ikpeazu, himself a former university lecturer, remarked that Onor, a Professor of History who represented Cross River Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, successfully bridged academia and legislative leadership. He noted that Onor’s scholarly background consistently reflected in his political style, which he described as thoughtful, measured, principled, and people-centered.
According to the former governor, turning 60 is more than a numerical milestone; it is “a testament to enduring relevance, resilience, and impact.” He commended the senator for distinguishing himself as a thinker and bridge-builder whose voice carries depth and conviction in national discourse.
Ikpeazu highlighted their long-standing friendship and political alliance, which he said is rooted in shared values such as inclusive governance, respect for democratic institutions, and commitment to the upliftment of the people.
He further described Onor as steadfast during turbulent political seasons, emphasizing that character remains the true measure of leadership.
The former governor also referenced Onor’s advocacy on national issues and his passion for the development of Cross River State, stating that the desire of his constituents to see him assume higher responsibilities reflects the trust and confidence he has earned over the years.
“At 60, you stand at the intersection of wisdom and experience, where reflection meets renewed purpose,” Ikpeazu stated, expressing confidence that the years ahead would bring even greater opportunities for impact.
Ikpeazu, while welcoming Onor to the sixth floor, prayed for robust health, clarity of vision, and continued strength for the senator to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic growth.
