The 22nd Regular Course Alumni of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) honoured the senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Austin Akobundu, with an Award of Recognition.
The award was presented to the senator alongside others, at the reunion programme of the Alumni which held in Abuja on Saturday, 9th August. The programme whose theme was “Staying Alive, Staying Engaged, Beating Boredom in Retirement,” started with a health talk on “Common Health Issues among the Elderly,” followed by a second one on “Avoiding Sedentary Lifestyle in Retirement.”
The first session of the programme was soon followed by a dinner where members of the Alumni interacted freely with each other and recalled with nostalgia their days of military service to the nation to the resounding applause of guests.
One of the highlights of the event was the roll call of members who had died either in service or due to some other reasons. A minute silence, followed by prayers for the repose of their souls, was observed by members.
Another highlight was the presentation of awards to Senator Austin Akobundu and others.
In his earlier speech, Senator Akobundu expressed gratitude to the Alumni and commended the group for the spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood that have been sustained among members over the years. He pledged his continued commitment to the progress of the association.
