Former Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Obinna Oriaku, has reacted to the withdrawal of his nomination as Abia State’s representative on the Federal Character Commission (FCC), describing the development as a reflection of the challenges that come with advocating for transparency in public service.

Oriaku, who was recently screened and confirmed by the Senate, said he received a call on Monday morning from a serving senator informing him that the Presidency had announced the substitution of his name.

He noted that despite completing the full confirmation process, the new development underscores the “cost” of standing for truth and fairness. According to him, public servants who challenge entrenched interests should always expect resistance, adding that “corruption never retreats quietly.”

Oriaku however emphasized that he bears no resentment, acknowledging that appointments remain the prerogative of the President. He stressed that as a democrat, he fully respects the President’s discretion on such matters.

He also confirmed that a petition allegedly originating from the Abia State Government or one of its agencies was submitted against his nomination. Oriaku maintained that this would not deter him from speaking on issues concerning Abia State, noting that his contributions have always been based on facts, integrity, and the public good.

The former commissioner assured his supporters that there is no cause for despair, revealing that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels is already reviewing the development. He added that the incident only highlights the impact of their advocacy for accountability in the state.

Oriaku further announced that his previously scheduled programme on Magic FM, where he is expected to discuss the Abia State 2026 budget estimate, will go ahead as planned.

He concluded by reaffirming his faith in divine providence, stating that power comes from God and His plans remain perfect.
