At last, political reconciliation has been achieved in Rivers State, bringing an end to months of tension, uncertainty, and institutional instability. Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, have held a peace meeting, signaling a major breakthrough in efforts to restore political stability in the state.
This development comes as a huge relief to the people of Rivers State and concerned stakeholders nationwide, who had grown increasingly alarmed over the prolonged political crisis. The standoff had threatened to derail governance and ultimately led to the declaration of a six-month emergency measure by President Bola Tinubu. With this new accord, that threat appears to have receded, paving the way for the full restoration of democratic processes and institutional harmony.
In a notable political realignment, both Governor Fubara and the lawmakers have retraced their steps and reaffirmed their loyalty to their political mentor and former governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The reconciliation also signals a renewed commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under whose platform they were all elected.
